About the event

What happens when Vodoo practices come into a collision with conversion to Christianity? It ain't pretty!

The Dean of African American composers, William Grant  Still. composed A Bayou Legend in 1941, but it was not professionally staged until 1974 when Opera/South in Jackson, Mississippi, presented its world premiere 33 years

later.

Set in 20th Century Creole village in the Mississippi Delta, the opera examines this subject and what happens when a woman wronged is in the middle of it! Spirits, love, conversion...quite a triangle!
