Valencia Pleasant

Mezzo-soprano

Valencia Pleasant, mezzo-soprano debuted with OperaCréole as Madame Trévigne in our Les Lions de la Reconstruction production and is now a regular singer with the company. She is a Mississippi girl who has called New Orleans home for over a decade.

In addition to singing, she serves as OperaCréole's Rehearsal Coordinator and Music Administrator.

Ms. Pleasant has a Masters of Music from New York University and her Bachelors from Mississippi State University. At NYU, she sang leading roles in operas such as Carmen, Cosi Fan Tutti, The Maid of Orleans, and Suor Angelica.

Music Teacher by day, Opera Singer by night, she is a small business owner as well as the co-founder and General Manager of BLERDFEST!, New Orleans’ first and only Black Nerd festival.

 

While in New York, Ms. Pleasant performed with the Pacific Encore Performances Repertory Company, in concert for the Gilbert & Sullivan Society of New York, and in The Maid of Orleans (Senator of Orleans) in the 14th Annual New York International Fringe Festival.

 

Ms. Pleasant taught in both St. Charles and Lafourche Parish School Districts and is currently a K-8 Music Teacher with Community Academies of New Orleans. As a Teaching Artist in New Orleans, she has performed with The Symphony at Western Kentucky University, the Community Chorus of River Parishes, sung locally and in Florence, Italy with the Symphony Chorus of New Orleans, and currently performs with OperaCréole and the New Orleans Opera Chorus
